Fathers day

Fathers day, mothers day grandparents day, children’s day…

There are 365 days in a year, do we really need a specific day to celebrate those we love and care about in an obvious fashion?

Yes!

Yes we do!

Life is precariously short, filled with highs and lows, tragedies and celebrations and in between all of that is the mundane aspects of life where we amble along in our day to day affairs.

It is in those days that we don’t vocalise or demonstrate our love and affection for those we consider closest to us because we assume they know how we feel, but do they really know?

Is it only when tragedy strikes that we reflect upon our mistakes and unspoken words, scrambling to post how we felt about the person off and online…

Growing up mothers day and father day was something I looked forward to, making cards and special breakfasts, carefully planning surprises.

Now that I am a parent myself I realise just how special that day is when your child makes that effort to demonstrate their love in their own special way.

Your heart expands just a little but more than it would on an average day because their love is reflected in their deliberate actions.

It is in these instances that we pull them close, breathe in their special smell and live in the moment that only they can give us.

This year on fathers day I think about my grandfather’s, father, father in law, brother in law and my husband.

All so different yet similar in the way they fiercely live their children.

Whether you are a father or a mom who is both father and mother to your children may you have a wonderful day basking in that little bit of extra adoration that will see you through the next 364 days until you are celebrated just that little bit again…
